Two drug peddlers detained under NDPS Act in Kathua

JAMMU (VEN): Under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, the J&K Police in Kathua district apprehended two hardcore drug peddlers. These individuals, habitual offenders, were involved in the possession and transportation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in multiple NDPS cases registered at PS Kathua and PS Rajbagh.

In the first case, a police team led by Insp. Ajay Singh Chib, SHO P/S Kathua, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kathua Sh. Manjeet Singh, apprehended Gurnam Singh @Katta, S/o Bui Lal, R/O Chak Drab Khan Kathua. The accused is a “habitual drug peddler” linked to multiple NDPS cases: FIR No. 19/2021 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act, FIR No. 233/2021 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act, FIR No. 146/2023 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act, FIR No. 11/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act.

“Based on his involvement, a “detention warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988,” was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, vide Order No. 49 of 2024, dated 09/12/2024. A “dossier” was prepared and forwarded for his detention “to prevent further illegal activities.” Subsequently, the warrant was executed, and Gurnam Singh was lodged in Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail Jammu, ensuring his activities no longer jeopardize the youth of the district,” police said in a statement.

In the second case, a police team led by Insp. Rajeshwar Slathia, SHO P/S Rajbagh, assisted by IC PP Marheen PSI Ravinder Singh, and under the supervision of SDPO Border Sh. Dheeraj Singh Katoch, JKPS, apprehended a woman drug peddler, Asha Bibi, W/o Mohd. Sadiq, R/O Khanpur, Tehsil Marheen, District Kathua. She was involved in multiple NDPS cases: FIR No. 294/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act, FIR No. 104/2024 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act.

“A “detention warrant under the PIT-NDPS Act, 1988,” was issued against her by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. Following the preparation and approval of her “dossier,” the warrant was executed, and she was lodged in Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail Jammu “to prevent her continued involvement in drug trafficking,” the statement said.

This decisive action by the Kathua Police has been highly appreciated by the locals, who lauded the “anti-drug initiatives aimed at safeguarding the youth from the menace of drugs.” (VEN)
