SRINAGAR (VEN): While continuing its efforts to combat the drug menace and dismantle narcotics trafficking networks, Jammu and Kashmir Police has apprehended a drug peddler in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Saturday.
The arrest of a drug peddler has further strengthen the fight against illegal drugs in the district.
“Acting on leads that surfaced during the ongoing investigation of Case FIR No. 87/2024 under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Litter, a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Shamim Wani, son of Abdul Majeed Wani, resident of Astanpora, was arrested and 15.50 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession,” police said in a statement.
“In the investigation conducted so far in the instant case, one drug peddler identified as Yawar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Hamid Mir, resident of Melhoura was already arrested on 26.11.2024 and 10.58 grams of brown sugar like substance was recovered from his possession,” the statement said.
In order to ascertain the backward/forward linkages, the accused Yawar Ahmad Mir was put to sustained questioning wherein he revealed the role of Mohammad Shamim Wani of Astanpora in drug trafficking in the area.
“Investigations revealed that the co accused Mohammad Shamim Wani was using his motorcycle, bearing registration number JK13F-0571, to transport the illicit drug and accordingly it has also been seized in the instant case,” the statement added.
