Two drug peddlers arrested in Awantipora

SRINAGAR (VEN): In its ongoing drive to combat drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Awantipora area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Thursday and recovered significant quantity of contraband substance from their possession.

“A vehicle (ECO) bearing Registration Number JK05M-4630 was intercepted by a team of Police Post Reshipora, led by Inspector Bilal Ahmad and supervised by SDPO Awantipora at a naka established at Dogripora with two persons identified as Arif Ahmad, son of Sona Ullah War, and Naseer Ahmad War, son of Mohammad Maqbool War — both residents of Warpora, Sopore on board. During search of the vehicle, 1.680 kilograms of grinded cannabis were recovered,” police said in a statement.

“Both suspects have been taken into custody, and the vehicle used in the illegal activity has also been seized,” the statement said.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 175/2024 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been taken up.

“Over the past five days, Awantipora Police have arrested six drug peddlers, including a female suspect, and booked two notorious individuals under the PIT NDPS Act. Additionally, a vehicle identified as illegally acquired property has been seized as part of the district’s anti-drug operations, the statement added.

The police have urged residents of Awantipora, Tral, Pampore, and Khrew to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking in their neighborhoods.

They have assured strict legal action against those involved in the drug trade and seek community support to curb this menace. (VEN)
